Zachary Taylor Maxwell, 15, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Services to celebrate Zach’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Coram Deo Bible Church, 3800 E 53rd Street, Davenport. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to Hudson Strong Foundation (www.hudsonstrongfoundation.org), which works to support Iowa families whose kids are fighting cancer.
Zach was born May 4, 2009, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Jodi (Weiher) Maxwell. He was currently a 10th grader at Pleasant Valley High School.
Zach’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a proud member of Coram Deo Bible Church, where his positive attitude and belief in God helped guide him through life’s challenges. He loved spending time with his friends and family, whether playing video games, poker, or other card games. He had a special connection with the outdoors, enjoying time at the lake mudding, tubing and skiing, hunting — recently taking down his first deer — and 4-wheeling through mud holes. Zach also had a deep love for his family, and cherished every moment with them.
His favorite color was orange, but his dream car was the Porsche 911 — in any color but orange. Zach's courageous spirit shined through in everything he did, including his battle with cancer. Even with the challenges he faced, he never let them define him. He said that God gave him cancer so he could bring others closer to the Lord. He firmly believed that it was his honor to do so. He learned to adapt, continuing to play trombone, video games and music, and hunting with incredible determination, even with the use of only one arm.
Zach is survived by his loving parents, Jodi Maxwell and Daniel Maxwell, both of Bettendorf; his three beloved siblings, Carson, Ethan and Madison Maxwell, all of Bettendorf; maternal grandparents, Dwayne and Joyce Weiher of Bemidji, Minnesota; paternal grandparents, Donovan and Donna Maxwell of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; maternal aunts and uncle, Jeanie Hall and Michael (Kirsten) Weiher, both of Bemidji; paternal aunts and uncles, Devona (Tim) Tarbell of Pleasant Hill, Deann (Carl) Albertson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Dawn (James) Bootsma of Pleasant Hill; and many cousins and friends including Collin Weiher, who was his cousin and best buddy.
Zach’s strength, faith, and courage inspired everyone who knew him. His life, though far too short, was filled with love, laughter, and countless memories that will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
