Winifred Clarke, 100, of Geneseo, Illinois, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with Elders Paul Lindburg and Ken Rundle officiating. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Community of Christ Church or Hillcrest Home Activity Fund.
The former Winifred Welch was born October 3, 1912, in Joy, Illinois, the daughter of Clyde and Iva Odel Welch, She attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and graduated from Marycrest College, and taught in Mercer County and Aledo, and retired from Rock Island Public Schools after teaching for 35 years. She was a member of Community of Christ Church, Moline, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Rock Island Women?s Club, and Christian Women?s Club. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles with a pen.
Winifred is survived by nieces and nephews and their spouses, Patricia and John Hemminger of Geneseo, Robert E. ?Gene? and Bette Clarke of Colona, Illinois, Richard D. and Janice Clarke of Woodhull, Illinois, and Diane and Cliff Vogel of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; several great-nieces and great-nephews and their families; a cousin, Edward ?Pike? and Marge Odel of Moline; and a special friend, Bette Williams of Aledo.
