The former Winifred Lee Lott was born March 5, 1932, in Jefferson County, Nebraska, the daughter of Ransom Ray and Cora Omega (Cordry) Lott. She married the love of her life, Earl Buttke, on August 20, 1955, in Dunkerton, Iowa. They shared over 50 wonderful years together before his passing on September 5, 2007.

Winnie was a dedicated and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coal Valley, where she served as a Sunday School leader and as president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Her faith and service to her church were central to her life.

Creative and industrious, Winnie was talented in baking, cake decorating, and sewing. Her handiwork graced many weddings, as she crafted stunning cakes and beautiful dresses. She also loved solving jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku, and she found immense joy in gardening. She had a knack for nurturing flowers and never let a weed linger, even in her later years.

Winnie was affectionately known as the “neighborhood mom,” welcoming children from the area with her stern yet loving demeanor. Above all, her family meant the world to her. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy.

Winnie is survived by five children, John (KayMarie) Buttke of Muscatine, Iowa, Renea Furnald of Gallatin, Tennessee, Shelley (Mark) Neels of Lakeland, Florida, Sandra (Matt) Bowman of Moline, and Roberta (Delfino) Lopez of Davenport; eight grandchildren, Johnie (David) Fry, Joshua (Brittney) Buttke, Colt (Laura) Furnald, Jodi Camasta, Justan (Elizabeth) Neels, Jacob Bowman, Luke (Allie) Bowman, and Anthony (Chelsea) Lopez; 13 great-grandchildren, Noah, Adam, Ethan, Abel, and Eli Fry, Bella Andrew, Gabriel Buttke, Charlotte and Cora Furnald, Mark and Grace Neels, and Mia and Izzy Lopez; two brothers, Robert and Larry Lott; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Jim) Andrew; a sister-in-law, Vivian Lott; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; and a brother, Don Lott.

The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice Compassus for the wonderful care given to Winnie in her final days.
