William B. Schaumburg

Coal Valley, Illinois

William B. “Bill” Schaumburg, 77, of Coal Valley, Illinois passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Senior Star Memory Care. 

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Private burial is in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

William Benton Schaumburg was born March 23, 1947, in Moline, Illinois, to Durland and Katherine Ellen (VanHorn) Schaumburg. He graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force for 3 years, 10 months, 8 days, 7 hours, 36 minutes, and 04 seconds (or so he told everyone). On August 25, 1973, he was united in marriage to Charlene Heinecke in Sisseton, South Dakota. Bill worked at the Rock Island Public Library. 

Bill loved blues music. He started playing harmonica in his high school years and continued to play throughout his life. He played in multiple groups around the Quad City Area: Two Point Five, Brooklyn Ed and Spider Bill, The Dave Churchill Band, The Harmonica Marching Band and many others. Bill was a member of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society, the Quad Cities Friends of Heritage Arts and the River Prairie Minstrels. Bill was also passionate about bicycling, hiking, traveling and yo-yoing. 

Survivors include his wife, Charlene (Heinecke) Schaumburg; children, Herman (Si) Schaumburg of Wilmette, Illinois, and Katie (Tim) O’Brien of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren; sibling, Kay (Benton) Stecher of Galesburg, Illinois; and nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
