William M. Anderson

William M. Anderson, Jr., 87, of Moline, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 12:45 p.m. Cremation has taken place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Bill was born December 7, 1928, in Mexico, Missouri, the son of William and Dorothy (Ferrier) Anderson. Dorothy later married Virgil Hankins who helped to raise Bill. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Muriel Branstetter in 1947 with whom they had two daughters. He remarried in 1991 to Hazel Palike.

He retired from American Air Filter in Moline, after 35 years, while also working for the Moline Dispatch for over 30 years. He then moved to Sevierville, Tennessee, where after 10 years as a janitor with the school system, he retired again and they moved to Troy, Missouri. He was a former member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, Troy, Missouri, and Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island.

Bill is survived by his wife, Hazel; two daughters, Ava (Bob) Hall and Ellen (Jamie) Garrett, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, siblings John (Glenda) Hankins of Rock Island, and Karen (David) Waite of Davenport, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Gordon and Cecil Ellis, Milton and Kilmer Anderson, and Janet Crawford. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
