William Lambert

Silvis, Illinois William "Bill" Lambert, 77, of Silvis, Illinois, lost his brave battle will prostate and bone cancer on Saturday, November 27, 2004, at River Park Health Care Center, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Family and friends will then proceed from the funeral home to the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal for a graveside service. Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be given to the University of Iowa Prostate Cancer Research Program, Iowa City, or American Legion Post #246, Moline. Bill was born on Wednesday, December 22, 1926, in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Charlie and Winnie (Fox) Lambert, but grew up in Paintsville, Kentucky. At 17, he entered the U. S. Navy and served on the USS Gearing DD-710 during WW II. On November 12, 1949, he married Elaine Turner in Savanna, Illinois, who remained his life-long loved one. All during his working life until his retirement, Bill was a member of the Rock Island Painters Union Local #502. In the 1960s, Bill moved his family to the Gary, Indiana, area, where he worked as a construction painter. In the 1990s, Bill lived in Big Bar, California, where he pursued his hobby of diving and dredging for gold. Bill returned to Illinois in 2001. He was proud that he participated in the University of Iowa's Prostate Cancer Research Program. Although Bill had no religious affiliation, he believed deeply in God. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him: Elaine; his daughter Brenda Lambert-Fornshell and her husband Bill Fornshell of Chesterton, Indiana; and his son Brad Lambert and his wife Jan, of Moline, Illinois. Other survivors include his four grandchildren, Chance Fornshell, Chesterton, and Layna, Lance, and Levi Lambert of Moline; his sisters, Clara Dadisma of Mt. Eden, Kentucky, and Mary Tipton of Daytona, Florida; his brother Donald Lambert of Apache Junction, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
