William J. DeVine, 75, of Davenport, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.
Graveside services are 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 11:45 a.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any veterans organization of one’s choosing.
William Joseph DeVine was born October 3, 1946, in Davenport, the son of William P. “Andy” and Mary H. (Blanche) DeVine. He was a standout baseball and basketball player at St. Joseph’s High School in DeWitt, Iowa, graduating in 1964. He served with the 101st Airborne in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning many commendations.
He was an electrician at French and Hecht in Davenport for many years. After retiring, he continued as an electrician in several capacities including for Home Depot in Clinton and side jobs for friends.
Bill enjoyed golfing, going to the casino with his kids, camping, and spending time with his family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Above all else, his grandchildren were the most important thing to Bill.
He is survived by his children, Melissa DeVine-Smith of Davenport, Chuck (Elizabeth) DeVine of Moore Haven, Florida, Amy (Joe Regan) DeVine of Bettendorf, and Angela (Alex Leeds) DeVine of North Carolina; grandchildren, Ashley and Makenzie Smith, Savannah and Monica DeVine, and Jacob and Colby Leeds; a great-grandson, Cohen Tommie, and another due any day, Cashten Tommie; four sisters, Sue, Mary Lou, Debbie, and Jan; and four brothers, Tom, Joe, Steve, and Mike. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Barb, John, Jerry, Bobby, Rick, and Patrick.
