William Dale Hynd was born September 10, 1933, in Moline, to William Jr. and Marguerite (Peterson) Hynd. He graduated from United Township High School in 1951, and completed his toolmaker apprenticeship at Reynolds Engineering in Rock Island in 1955. He joined the US Navy, and served on the destroyer-tender USS Frontier in the Pacific, completing active duty in 1957 and serving in the US Navy Reserves until 1962. Upon his release from active duty, he rejoined Reynolds Engineering as a toolmaker until retiring in 1998. He married Mary Ellen Blondeel on August 2, 1958, in Sheffield, Illinois.
Bill’s enjoyments were riding his bicycle along the river, often all the way to Cordova; recycling for the residents of Summit Ridge; and watching his only local grandson, Alex, play sports. He was especially pleased to attend the graduation of his godson Nathan Moss from Marine Boot Camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, and was proud that Nathan later served as a Navy Medical Officer at the Yokosuka Naval Station in Japan where he had served years earlier.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; six daughters and their spouses, Theresa and Glen Moss of Dayton, Ohio, Mary and Cliff Schrock of Stratford, Connecticut, Eileen and John Saksa of Westmont, Illinois, Patricia Scott of Moline, Karen and Dan Fitzgerald of Barrington, Illinois, and Janet and Rory Gibson of Bradenton, Florida; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings and spouses, Betty and Bob VanDeVoorde of Rock Island, Sister Mary Louise Hynd, O.S.F., Peoria, Illinois, and Barbara and Richard Carlson of New London, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Anthony Scott.
Mary Ellen and her family express their appreciation to the personnel at Silver Cross and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate and loving care given to Bill, and invite friends to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
