William D. Gibbons

William D. Gibbons, Jr., 96, of Silvis, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Craig Jan-McMahon officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and one-half hour before services on Monday. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the burial.

Bill was born December 9, 1920, at Beaman, Iowa, to William David Sr. and Helen Jane Blow Gibbons. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1947, with a mechanical engineering degree. He married Gail Barbara Aspel on September 13, 1947, in Riceville, Iowa. She died January 24, 2017. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II, and worked for International Harvester for 37 years, retiring in 1984 as manager of manufacturing engineering at the East Moline Works.

Survivors include children and spouses, Barbara and Tom Cavanaugh of Derry, New Hampshire, Marcia Gibbons and Jim Bolton of Lovingston, Virginia, William III and Pam Gibbons of Johnston, Iowa, and Jon Gibbons and Lucy Junus of San Francisco, California; six grandchildren and spouses, Christopher and Jennifer Zelnio, Erin Zelnio, Matthew Bolton and Juliane Nguyen, Brady Bolton, Jessica and Ryan Haugo, and Danielle and Stephen West; one great-grandchild, Sawyer Haugo; and a sister, Janice Johnson of Clive, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; and a brother, Donald Gibbons, Sr.
