Bill Unger, 66, of Coal Valley, died Monday, December 22, 2003, at his residence. Services will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial gifts may be given to either Pathway Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. William Allyn Unger was born November 20, 1937 in Rock Island, Illinois the son of William E. and Dorothy M. (Hicks) Unger. He married the former Karen Kane on March 23, 1957 in Rock Island. Bill was employed as a plumber & pipe fitter for 37 years at Plumber & Pipe fitters Local 25, retiring January 1, 1993. He was sometimes referred to as "the mayor of fourth street", where he helped organize the neighborhood Christmas lights. Bill enjoyed old cars, nascar racing, fast pitch softball, having played on the World Champion Harrelson Motors fast pitch softball team, and fishing. Bill will be greatly missed by his wife, Karen, his mother, D. Maxine Unger of Milan, Illinois, a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Dick Anderson, two sons and a daughter-in-law, William and Mary Unger, and Charles Unger, all of Moline, five grandchildren, Lindsay Martin of Rock Island, Ryan Anderson of Chicago, Illinois, Steven Unger of Moline, Angela Unger of Concord, New Hampshire, and Michael Unger of Moline, a great-grandson, Xavier Unger of Concord, NH, a brother Ken Unger, a sister Kaye Kain, both of Milan, and his best friend Toby Laden and his wife Sue of Coal Valley.
