William A. Schultz

William A. "Bill" Schultz, Jr., 80, of Silvis, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Davenport American Legion Post #26 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care & Control.

Bill was born November 21, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of William Arthur Schultz, Sr. and Gertrude Emma Mason. He was raised by his mother and step-father, William Hancock, Sr. He married Tempy Foster on April 4, 1968, in Valparaiso, Florida. He later married Margie Carlson Weeks on February 14, 1981, in Rock Island.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, Marine Corps, and Army before retiring from the the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning a Silver Star and Purple Heart. He later worked as a cook and bartender for several area businesses including Franciscan Hospital and Murphy's Bar, both in Rock Island.

He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and hockey, dancing, darts, bowling, collecting knives, reading James Patterson novels, and watching old westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 35-years, Margie; two sons, William A. Schultz and his girlfriend, Bianca Vera, of Davenport, and Scott Schultz and his fiancé, Brandy Dalessandro, of Rock Island; step-children, Steve and Lori Weeks of East Moline, David and Julie Weeks of Geneseo, Pam and David Howe of Rock Island, and LTC Doug Weeks and Sheri, in Germany; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Diane and Dimtry Kosty, and Ann Prochorenkos, all of Philadelphia, Mary and Jerry Merklinger of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and Ellen Mayer of Cookstown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Mike Weeks, and brothers, Pete and Butch Hancock.
