Wilfred F. “Bill” Schmidt

Wilfred F. "Bill" Schmidt, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, February 4, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center, Moline.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Thomas O. Peterson officiating. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Moline American Legion.

Wilfred Frederick Schmidt was born August 1, 1920, in Sawyer, Michigan, the son of August and Paulina (Klimpkin) Schmidt. He married Alice Milne on July 9, 1944, in Pensacola, Florida. She died July 1, 1989. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring as equipment specialist in 1985. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, American Legion Post #246, Moline, and the German Club of Moline. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, and gardening.

Bill is survived by three children, Pamela Beauchamp of Moline, Dr. Warren Schmidt and his wife Carla of Iowa City, Iowa, and Wayne Schmidt of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, Aaron Beauchamp, and Nathan, Katrina, Edward, Natalia, and Tasha Schmidt; a great-grandchild, Madison Beauchamp; and a beloved friend, Mildred DeLeu of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son. Wilfred F. Schmidt Jr. who was killed in action in Viet Nam in 1969; three brothers and three sisters.
