Wilbur E. Brooks, 76, of New Windsor, Illinois, formerly of East Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, November 15, 2018, at home.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the VVA Quad Cities Chapter 299 will present military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet in the upper parking lot of Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 1:45 p.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
Wilbur Edwin Brooks was born November 12, 1942, in St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years during the Vietnam War. He worked for John Deere before becoming a semi-driver for several companies. After retiring from Roadway Express in Rock Island in 2000, he went on to drive a school bus in East Moline, and work as a maintenance man for Jordan Catholic School in Rock Island.
Wilbur is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Jennifer Brooks of Rockville, Maryland; a step-son, John (Wendy) Pulford of Grayslake, Illinois; step-grandchildren, Spencer and Caroline Pulford; sisters, Bonnie (Dick) Curry of Reynolds, Illinois, and Connie (Allen) Schnoor of Donahue, Iowa; a brother, Gary Brooks of Hawaii; and several close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Brooks; his mother and step-father, Inez and Gerald Rushton; and his favorite uncles, Richard, Norman, and Frank Quist.
