Keith L. Hyman, 60, of Long Grove, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, and Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
A Service of Christian Burial will be held in Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 with the Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating. Visitation is Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, 601 21st Street, Moline, and Friday, January 27, 2012 at Schultz Funeral Home, 722 8th Street, DeWitt, from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Concordia Seminary Food Pantry, St. Louis, Missouri, or the American Cancer Society for pancreatic cancer research.
Keith LeRoy Hyman was born December 8, 1951, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Albert William and Laverle Katherine Roberts Hyman. He graduated from Oelwein Community High School and Iowa State University, with a degree in American history. He married Nancy Jo Kelting Masson on October 25, 1986, in Moline. Since 1998, Keith has been employed in the Strategic Sourcing Department at KONE, first at the Escalator Plant in Coal Valley, and currently at the North American Headquarters in Moline. He previously worked for various private defense contractors at the Rock Island Arsenal for ten years, and prior to that in purchasing for several manufacturers and wholesale distributors.
A Christian man, Keith was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where he served as a Trustee and on the Call Committee, and was an Elder for 16 years. He formerly belonged to the Civil War Roundtable, Moline Preservation Society, and Colonel Davenport Foundation, where he volunteered as a docent. He was a loving son and grandson, husband, father and grandfather, and a friend to many. ?Papa Keith? supported his children and grandchildren in all their activities. He loved hunting and fishing with his brother Ken and other close friends, traveling with his wife exploring our country?s national parks, hiking, and being outdoors. He was an avid reader, who loved history, especially American and military history.
Keith is survived by his wife, Nancy; two children and their spouses, Stephanie and Marvin Rodas of Crete, Illinois, and Shawn and Lindsey Hyman of Boone, Iowa; three grandchildren, Alexandra Rodas, Cody Rodas, and Brady Hyman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sandra Hyman of Dubuque, Iowa, and Kenneth and Barbara Hyman of Muscatine, Iowa; aunts, Eileen Christensen of Oelwein, Iowa, and Rosemary Hyman of Bloomington, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and sisters-in-law, Eileen Yeggy and her husband Tom of Davenport, Iowa, and Karen Kelting, of East Moline, Illinois.
