Walter R. "Pete" Idlewine, Jr., 59, of Moline, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 18, 2013, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Tim Bowman officiating. Burial is in Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Iowa, where the Iowa National Guard will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Walter R. Idlewine Jr. Memorial Fund. Pete's family invites friends to join them at a luncheon at Rochester United Methodist Church following the burial.
Walter Richard Idlewine, Jr. was born August 3, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Walter Richard and Rita Mary Schroeder Idlewine. He graduated from Tipton, Iowa, High School and attended St. Ambrose University. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was an information specialist in the Iowa National Guard for 20 years, retiring as Sergeant. He worked at the Department of Information Services Administration on the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring as Office Chief in 2008. He attended Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, and was active in Casas Por Cristo through the church. After his brother's death, Pete took great pride in helping to raise his nephew, Michael. He enjoyed bowling and golf.
Pete is survived by five siblings and their spouses, Mary Idlewine of Davenport, Margaret and Larry Echeberry of Davenport, Louise Idlewine of Rochester, Rex and Jenny Idlewine of Olin, Iowa, and Martha Freeman and Jim Weese of Rochester; a sister-in-law, Delmys Idlewine of Moline; a brother-in-law, Marlo Baetke of Bettendorf, Iowa; nephews, Chad Baetke, Trent Idlewine, Jeramy Idlewine, Seth Weese, and Michael Idlewine; nieces, Hope Brouwers, Elizabeth Voss, and Taryn Sizemore; many great-nephews and great-nieces; and his cat Fluff. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Idlewine.
