Walter Lee Terrell, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Visitation is Monday 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, 1201 13th St., Moline until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Green Rock/Colona American Legion Post #1233 will conduct military honors. Memorials may be made to the church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Walter was born August 29, 1931, in Bedford, Indiana, the son of Frank and Helen (Bales) Terrell. He was united in marriage to Monica Patterson on October 2, 1953.
Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948-1968. He was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for combat action in Korea (1952-1953). He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 22 years at the Small Arms Facility and the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Department.
Walter was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, the Moline American Legion Post #246, Fleet Reserve, NRA, and the Quad City British Auto Club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home with the Moline Family Campers.
Walter is survived by his children, Ron (Gay "Beav") Terrell, of Colona, Tammy (Mike) Hoyt, of Moline, Mark (Terry) Terrell, of Geneseo, and Laura (Jamie) Smith, of Moline; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Monica, and their son, Donnie.
