Donald W. Rada, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Moline, with The Reverends Deb and Flint Miller officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church.
Donald William Rada was born August 24, 1921, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of William S. and Oka Belle (Poland) Rada. He was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy serving as a Torpedoman in World War II. He married Evelyn Lucille Hogbin on February 20, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked at Strombeck Manufacturing Company, Moline for 38 years, retiring in 1982.
Don was an active member of First Baptist Church, Moline, for over 50 years, and served as deacon, usher, and treasurer. He enjoyed woodworking.
Don is survived by his wife, Lucille; two children and their spouses, Janet and Marion Tatman, Jr., of Moline, and Robert and Marilyn Rada of East Moline; two grandchildren, Tom Tatman, and Linda Bergo and her husband Eric; two great-grandchildren, Laif and Aowen Bergo; and his brother, Kenneth Rada of Davenport, Iowa.
