Virginia Sharer Nordstrom, 95, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, October 5, 2013, in UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Randy Willers officiating. Burial is in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, or Illinois Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The former Edith Virginia Sharer was born January 22, 1918, in Monmouth, to Arch and Bertha Coffland Sharer. She graduated from Monmouth High School and attended Monmouth College. She married Glenn E. Nordstrom on January 12, 1946, in Monmouth. He died July 26, 1982. She retired as a license examiner for the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Earlier, she taught in a one-room school in Mercer County, and worked for the Illinois State Highway Department.
Virginia was a proud memnber of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a founding member of the East Moline City Club, and a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. She was active in Republican politics and served as East Moline City GOP Chairwoman and East Moline Precinct Committeewoman. She enjoyed genealogy.
Virginia is survived by two children and their spouses, Darla and Glenn Pettit of Tucson, Arizona, and Alan and Kerry Nordstrom of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lance and Tracy Pettit, Shannon and Michelle Pettit, Tim and Tracy Pettit, Melissa Mayers, Laura and Alex Welch, and Cindy Nordstrom; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, John C. Sharer.
