Virginia L. McConaghy, 82, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, after battling leukemia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. The Reverend John A. Bray of Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island, will officate. Visitation is 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial is in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or the Lupus Foundation of America.
The former Virginia Lee Ausmus was born January 30, 1925, in Camp Point, Illinois, the daughter of Rex and Iona (Wilkey) Ausmus. She married John ?Jack? McConaghy on December 27, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. He died March 3, 1972.
Virginia owned and operated Marva Heating, Co. with her husband. She worked for JI Case and Illinois Oil before being hired at the Rock Island Arsenal as a programmer. She retired in 1985.
Mrs. McConaghy belonged to the Viking Club in Moline, and enjoyed dancing and gardening. She loved to travel, and especially loved her trip to Ireland. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was well known for her engaging smile and laugh.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Eileen Welch of Moline; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Joy McConaghy, and Dan and Victoria McConaghy, all of Moline; a step-daughter, Patricia Welch of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren and their spouses, Tricia and Phill Beam, Dan and Alyce McConaghy, Jennifer and John DeVito, Johnna and Brent Gehlsen, Shelley and Andy Polito, Katie McConaghy, John McConaghy, and Erin McConaghy; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Ausmus of Littleton, Colorado; a brother-in-law, Bill Adair of Wichita, Kansas; an uncle, Elmer Wilkey of Quincy, Illinois; and a special friend, Bill Cramer of Milan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Adair, a step-daughter, Kathy Allison, and an infant sister.
