H. Vincent Harsha, 88, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at home.
Services are 4 p.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Donna Blythe officiating. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will be a prayer service at Oxford United Methodist Church, Oxford, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by burial in Oxford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, Oxford United Methodist Church, or the University of Iowa Foundation.
Harold Vincent Harsha was born October 16, 1920 in Mason City, Iowa, son of Verne and Mercy (Banton) Harsha. He earned bachelor?s degrees in economics and engineering from the University of Iowa and also graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law. He married Cathryn Siesel McCleery on December 4, 1942, in Iowa City. She died January 8, 2009, in the 67th year of their devoted marriage. Vince was an officer in the United States Navy, serving on ships in the Atlantic, African, and Pacific theaters in WWII, and was the first Iowa Reservist to be recalled for active duty in Korea. He had a highly successful career as an attorney, and was patent counsel for Deere and Company for 18 years, retiring in 1986. He began his private practice of law after his retirement.
Vince was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline; American Legion; University of Iowa Alumni Association; Iowa Lettermen?s Club; and various legal professional organizations. He was a strong supporter of the University of Iowa and Moline High School sports. He loved to travel with his wife and family and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He played basketball for Iowa and followed the basketball and football teams with great passion throughout his life.
Vince exemplified the qualities of America?s Greatest Generation, showing high moral standards, commitment to service and family, and strength in the face of adversity. He was a dynamic and vigorous man who provided a rock-solid foundation for his wife, sister, children, and grandchildren.
Vince is survived by his sister, Carmine Miller of Indianola, Iowa; three children and their spouses, Bertie and Leonard See of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, Chris Lovejoy of Chicago, Illinois, and David and Amy Harsha of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Shannon Lovejoy, Bradley and Katherine Harsha, Wesley and Haley Harsha, Jeffery See, and Kathryn See; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Nicholas Lovejoy; and a step-great-grandson, Connor McNee.
