Veronika (Ron) Sherwood, 84, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, in Trinity Rock Island.
Private services will be held at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with burial in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association.
The former Veronika Ellen Dallas Shannon was born January 29, 1928, at home in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Russell Jacob and Louva Marie (Goe) Shannon. She married James Cooper in 1947. He died in 1953. She married Milton Sherwood on July 6, 1954, in Kahoka, Missouri. He died on July 28, 2006.
Ron worked for Dan-Away Charter Bus in Coal Valley, both in the office and as a driver, and for Eagles Grocery Store in Moline.
She enjoyed sewing and needlework.
Ron is survived by her children, Cheryl Cooper and David Castiaux of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, James and Patricia Cooper of Orion, Illinois, Holly and Robert Kier of Clarksboro, New Jersey, Marcy and Calvin Ainsworth of Holmen, Wisconsin, Jeffrey and Brenda Sherwood of Kingwood, Texas, Lori and Kent Anderson of Condon, Oregon, and Scot and Debbie Sherwood of Wesley Chapel, Florida; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marian Sands of Hampton, Illinois, Marty and Dorothy Shannon of Rock Island, Illinois, Arnold and Catherine Shannon of Woodbury, New Jersey, Aurelia Miller of Coal Valley, and John and Sue Shannon of Hampton; sisters-in-law, Pat Shannon of Hampton, and Teggie Shannon of Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alphonse and Harley Shannon.
