Vernon R. Strasser, 85, of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Private burial will take place at Summit Cemetery, Davenport.
Born on July 2, 1938, in Rock Island, Illinois, he was the son of Henry and Luella (VanDusen) Strasser. Vernon's life was marked by the love of his family and a passion for his work. He first married Toni Prosen, with whom he had his daughter, Luella, before Toni's untimely death in 1976.
He found love again and married Joy (Barfels) Strohm on July 1, 1977, in Long Grove, Iowa. Vernon spent many years as a dedicated truck driver, a job through which he made lasting friendships and explored various parts of the country. His hobbies included woodworking and horse riding, both of which brought him great joy.
Vernon and Joy shared a love of travel, journeying across the country together.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Joy; a daughter, Luella Strasser of Mashalltown, Iowa; a step-daughter, Maggie Hsu of Davenport; grandchildren, Krystal (Nick) Efstathiou, Ronnie (Tom) Blasco, Anthony Wixon, Cody Hsu, Destinie (John) Beatty, Baylee Anderson, Abbigayle Conner, Brooke Strohm, and Ashton Songer; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Toni Strasser; his parents; and a step-son, Lester Strohm.
