Vera E. McCreery

Vera E. McCreery, 73, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with visitation one hour prior to services.  Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vera McCreery Benefit.  Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements.

The former Vera Elaine McNeely was born January 13, 1950, in Avon, Illinois, the daughter of James Edward and Bertha Grace (Lashbrook) McNeely.  She worked as a secretary for the East Moline Correctional Center for many years, retiring in 2005.

Vera was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and loved using her lawn tractor.  Above all else, family and her many rescue pets over the years were the most important thing to Vera, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandson.

Vera is survived by two children, Meredith “Mick” (Amy) Mays, Jr. of Orion, and Allison (Steven) Bartels of Moline; five grandchildren, Noah Mays, Alexandria Mays, Dameon Powers, Kayla (Christian Sierra) Hogan, and William Bartels; a great-grandson, Mathew Sierra; siblings, Ila Bunch, B. Maxine (Robert) Stanford, Diana (Steve) Sears, and Franklin (Tina Hopkins) Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Lucy.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles Johnson and James McNeely.

The family would like to give special thanks to everyone at Dr. Constantinou’s office and UnityPoint Hospice for lending comfort through Vera’s fight and in her final days , as well as to her wonderful church family for their support and love.
