Velda Greif

Velda R. Greif, 85, of Orion, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at home.

A funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, Illinois, with Father Anthony Ego officiating. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.

The former Velda Rose Gragg was born September 1, 1939, in New London, Iowa, the daughter of James and Esther (Kanine) Gragg. She married the love of her life, Earl Edward Greif, on February 10, 1962, in Moline. He died May 29, 2018.

She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, volunteering in several capacities over the years. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds including crocheting and knitting. She also loved playing Bingo and was always willing to help friends and family in need. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Velda.

She is survived by her four children, Edward (Debra) Greif of Coal Valley, LaVonne (Randell) Chase of Galesburg, Illinois, Bernard (Hazel) Greif of Rock Island, and Joyce “Joy” Greif of Orion; two grandchildren, Anthony and Mindy Chase; and a sister, Mary Spurck of Geneseo, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; and siblings, Darlene Cunningham and Joseph Gragg.
