V. Verdene Shepard

September 23, 1923 — February 23, 2016

V. VerDene Shepard, formerly of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home in Pewaukee, Wisconsin at Chateau LeBlanc on February 23, 2016. The Quad Cities had always been home to VerDene until she moved to Pewaukee in 2013. She was "39+" when she passed, having lived a good, long life.

Born in Davenport, Iowa to Harry and Ethel (Morris) Ezell, she was the middle of five children. She married Joseph B. Roush in Moline and had 2 children. She later married Charles "Chuck" Shepard who preceded her in death by many years. She was a hairdresser, making many women beautiful and was spirited and resilient in life. She learned square dancing and enjoyed family outings, especially if sweet potato fries were involved. She was a strong woman who loved to laugh and loved her family. Throughout her life she was known as Deanie and Dena, but to her dearest loved ones she was Mom and Grandma. In phone calls and visits she would often end the conversation with, "I love you a bushel and a peck…" with the response of, "…and a hug around the neck".

VerDene is survived and remembered fondly by her children Christine (Russ) Sanderson-Boisvert of Texas and Joseph A. Roush and James Coyne of Wisconsin, along with her grandchildren Kevin Sanderson (Michelle) of Florida and Carrie Greer (Sean) of Texas, and five great-grandchildren; Colin, Zac, Gavin, Lauren, and Graham. She is preceded by her four siblings.

Her family wishes to thank Cindy of Help at Home in Moline and the caring staff of Chateau Le Blanc for taking such great care of their Mom and Grandma until she was called to her heavenly home.

Private services have been held by the family and Christian interment will be in Goshen, Missouri at a later date. Cremation was entrusted to Trimble Crematory. Memorials may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society in memory of her son-in-law, Robert Sanderson.
