Terry L. Elsbury

Terry L. Elsbury, 80, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at home.

Private family services will be held. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Disabled American Veterans.

Terry Lee Elsbury was born February 28, 1945, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Floyd Edward and Marian Elizabeth (Stickfort) Elsbury. He graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. Shortly after being discharged from the service, Terry married the love of his life, Catherine “Kas” Ann Sweredoski, on April 26, 1969, in Houseville, New York.

Terry worked as a scale technician first for Midwest Scales and later spent 50 years working for Fairbanks Scales in Davenport. He had a passion for working on pinball and slot machines as well as jukeboxes, owning and operating T&K Coin.

He was an avid racer. Whether it be sprint cars, go-carts, or dirt track racing, some of Terry’s happiest times were spent on a track of some kind. His other passion was family. Nothing brought Terry more joy than spending time with his wife and daughters and sons-in-law, as well as his true pride and joy, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Terry also enjoyed working on crosswords, sudoku puzzles, and watching Jeopardy and Westerns on television. He was an avid sports fan, most notably of the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Cubs.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Catherine “Kas” Elsbury; his daughters and sons-in-law, Candy Lopez of Milan, Illinois, Nicole (Donald) Habben of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Christine (James) Witte of LaGrange Park, Illinois; six grandchildren ("Terry's personalized nicknames"), Samantha “Mertie” (Joseph "Mutton Head") Behr, Taylor “Tilly” Kasia Leikyna, Seth “Sparky” Blankenship, Grace “Gilda” Habben, Jack “Jebediah” Witte, and Marie “Mona” Witte; four great-grandchildren, Noah “Norbert”, Olivia “Opal”, Logan “Louie”, and Alexis “Alice” Behr; siblings, Darlene (Lloyd) Corwin of Illinois City, Illinois, Marian (Larry) Adams of Lebanon, Tennessee, Randy (Rosann) Elsbury of Port Byron, Illinois, and Jeff (Pat) Elsbury of Moline; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Floyd and June Elsbury, his mother, Marian Brems; a son, Stephen Andrew Elsbury; and a brother, Michael Elsbury.
