Terrence James Whelan, 72, of Moline, Illinois, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, October 22, 2018.
Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1870 St. Ambrose Street, Dubuque, Iowa, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the mass. Memorials may be made to Loras College.
Terry was born April 23, 1946, in Dubuque, to Howard John and Helene Augusta (Rieger) Whelan. He graduated from Loras College in 1968, then taught at Aquin Catholic Schools in Cascade, Iowa, for several years, and later was pastoral associate at St. Patrick Catholic Church, LaSalle, Illinois for 10 years. For the past 15 years, he was employed at H & R Block where he did tax accounting and teaching. He had been involved in Stage 212 Theater in LaSalle, where he had the role of Franklin Roosevelt in "Annie" and the Fidler in "Fidler on the Roof." He played the violin and enjoyed traveling, reading, and gardening.
Terry is survived by his sister, Joyce Whelan of Dubuque.
