Sylvia A. Bivens

Sylvia A. (Barton) Bivens, 83, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Providence at Buda Assisted Living, Buda, Texas.

Services are tentatively scheduled for October 2024 and will be announced at a later date.  Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

The former Sylvia Ann Barton was born July 14, 1940, in Hamburg, Arkansas, the daughter of Arhtur and Lula Mae “Polly” Barton.  She served in the U.S. Army and went on to marry Jack V. Bivens.  The couple had two children prior to separating.

She retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in May of 1999 and went on to become a certified hypnotherapist and enjoyed helping people through hypnosis.  She also enjoyed ballroom dancing, competing in several dance competitions over the years.  Above all else, family was the most important to Sylvia and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Sylvia is survived by two children, Terrisa Bivens of Moline, and Thomas Bivens of Buda; three grandchildren, Mitchell and Cara Freeman, Mallory (Greg) Burney; and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Tucker and Elliot Burney.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
