Susan K. Carter, 74, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at Fort Armstrong Assisted Living surrounded by loved ones.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home.
Susan Kay Carter was born October 3, 1950, in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Leland L. and Anna E. (Kieffer) Krueger. She completed her master’s in fine arts.
As a professor in the arts, Susan’s life was a canvas of artistic expression. She brought vision to life through many different types of art including but not limited to, collages, paintings, and ceramics. She also expressed her creative process through sewing, crafting quilts and clothing.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Elithea (Paul) Van Note; grandchildren, Henry and Clara Van Note; siblings, Kris (Gary) Oliver, Sharon (Clete) Meiergerd, and Kim (Rafael) Gomez; sister-in-law, Susan Krueger; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sandra L. Mannia and Kerry Krueger.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Fort Armstrong. Your kindness, compassion, and dedication meant the world to Susan and to all of us. Knowing she was surrounded by such loving and attentive care brought us great comfort.
In every brushstroke, stitch, and sculpted form, Susan’s spirit endures—a reminder that art, like love, never fades.
