Steve P. Tomich, 93, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, September 5, 2008, in St. Anthony?s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Gregory Jozefiak officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to an education fund to be established for his great-grandchildren.
Steve Paul Tomich was born November 30, 1914, in Brazil, Iowa, the son of Marko and Antonia (Benac) Tomich. He married Lois McClain on November 24, 1942, in Rock Island. She died December 13, 1983. He served in the Army during World War II.
Steve worked as an assembler in Department 42 for International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island, for 37 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island, and a past member of the Croation Club and the Moline Eagle?s Lodge. He enjoyed gardening and building things out of wood.
Steve is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Shari Tomich of Andalusia, Illinois, granddaughters and their husbands, April and Doug Palmer of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, and Elizabeth and John Poulos of Rock Island, a grandson and his wife, Robert M. and Emily Tomich of Rock Island, great-grandchildren, Tyler and Scott Palmer, and Brandon Poulos, and a sister, Virginia Churuvia of East Moline, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, and two sisters.
