Sid passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Summit, Bettendorf, Iowa. Arrangements will be handled by Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline.
Sid was born in Milwaukee, WI and his family later moved to Des Moines, IA where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. As a forestry major at Iowa State University, Sid spent a summer as a fire spotter in Montana. In 1956 Sid graduated from Iowa State, wed Deborah J. Marshall on June 9, then joined the U.S. Army. Sid and Debby moved to Zweibrucken, Germany where Sid served for two years until honorably discharged in 1958. Debby preceded Sid in death in 2002.
Sid worked for Interstate Finance in Milwaukee, WI and Waukegan, IL, then First National Bank in Muscatine, IA. In 1973 he returned to Davenport joining his brother, Donald, and Don’s father-in-law, Morris Weiss, in Valley Beverage/Scott Distributing. Sid served in 1983 as president of the Iowa Wholesale Beer Distributors Association.
Sid wed Phyllis M. Seppala Dunn June 5, 2004 in Indianapolis, IN.
Sid was a long time member of Davenport Country Club, Gyros Club of Davenport, and Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. He was a faithful volunteer with Habitat ReStore in Davenport. Sid loved both Iowa and Iowa State athletics and held Hawkeye football season tickets for many years, enjoying the tailgate party as much as the game. Sid traveled the world and loved to winter in Englewood, FL. He was an avid golfer with eight (yes, eight!) holes-in-one!
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughter Lynn (Michael) Chitty of Ames, IA; son Jeff (Patty) Herzberg of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren Lauren (Dustin) Meier of Walford, IA, Garrett (Valerie) Chitty of Grimes, IA, Daniel (fiance' Marissa Palminteri) Herzberg of Des Moines, IA, William (Molly) Herzberg of Milwaukee, WI, Sara Herzberg of Portland, OR; and great-grandchildren Bennett and Carson Meier, and Blake Chitty.
