Shirley Lawrence Wood, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Moline, with The Reverend Jacqueline Perry officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Private burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Hooved Animal Humane Society, Quad City Animal Welfare Center, or the Salvation Army.
The former Shirley Edith Lawrence was born October 21, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Spaller) Lawrence. She married Beder Wood on May 31, 1947, in Union, New Jersey. He died November 28, 2005. She earned her R.N. from Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, which is now Rush Medical Center.
Shirley worked as a nurse and for the YWCA in Moline, but spent a majority of her life raising her family and helping her husband at Beder Wood?s Sons on 18th Street at the Mississippi River.
She was a member of PEO Chapter HB and the Silvercross Circle of King?s Daughters. She loved horses and horseback riding and was a strong supporter of the Hooved Animal Humane Society.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Mary Farrell of Moline, a son, Beder Wood of Stelle, Illinois, and granddaughters, Kendra Farrell, Jacquelyn (Tony) Ramos, Allyson Soliz, and April Soliz, and a sister, Patricia Clemence. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Lawrence Wood, and a daughter, Sally Ann Soliz.
