Shirley J. Work, 93, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Avonlae Cottage, Milan.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, Illinois, at a later date.
She was born March 24, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Lindstrom) Jonas. She attended Wharton School of Commerce in Chicago and sang with the Apollo Club of Chicago. She married Frank Work on August 18, 1945. He died May 7, 1984.
Shirley was a legal secretary for Allstate Insurance in Northbrook, Illinois, for many years. She then operated a fishing resort in Mountain Home, Arkansas, with her husband, Frank, until retirement. She loved to sing, play cards, and knit. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two children, Linda (Terry Inch) Work of Moline, and Dr. James (Parvin) Work of New Berlin, Wisconsin, five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Carol Larsen; and sisters, Lorrayne Roth and Marilyn Hausteen.
