Delores M. Southwood, 92, of Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois, formerly of Silvis, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2011.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Randy Willers officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Bloom Cemetery, Tiskikwa, Illinois. Visitation is one hour before the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline.
Delores Madelyn Southwood was born May 12, 1919, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of George and Helen Iva (Lattin) Southwood. She was a graduate of Rock Island High School. She joined the Cadet Nurses Corps during World War II, and was later made an Honorary Member. She worked 14 years as House Mother for Girls at The Lutheran Home for Children in Andover, Illinois, and then worked as a Nurses Aide at the former Moline Lutheran Hospital for 27 years, retiring in 1988.
She enjoyed traveling and attending her class and family reunions. Her pet cat Daisy was special to her. Delores was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline and a member of the Church?s Prayer Circle.
Delores is survived by a brother, Don Southwood of Davenport, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Rita Southwood of Hampton, Illinois, and Eileen Southwood of Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dewey and Duane Southwood, and a sister-in-law, Marietta Southwood.
