Sheldon J. Meek

Sheldon J. Meek, 73, of Reynolds, Illinois, died Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Rev. Paul Newhall officiating. Burial is in Reynolds Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Reynolds United Methodist Church or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Sheldon was born August 7, 1945, in Moline, Illinois, the son of LeRoy and Margretta (Lowe) Meek. He married Sharon Curtis on March 31, 1967, in Reynolds.

Sheldon worked as a journeyman machinist for 47 years at Parr Instrument Company, Moline, retiring in 2010. In earlier years, he enjoyed traveling, camping, going on family picnics, woodworking, and swimming. He always loved being outdoors working in the yard and organic gardening on his beautiful five acres. He also enjoyed birdwatching. For 26 years, Sheldon had a small business growing garden mums. He and his wife sold the mums at farmer's markets and craft shows.

Sheldon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon of Reynolds; a daughter, Shelley (Jon) Anthony of Moline; two step-granddaughters; a sister, Sherma (Kendall) Phelps of Silver Lake, Kansas; nieces and nephews; and in-laws and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Sherman Meek.
