Sheila B. Nelson, 87, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, May 10, 2024, in Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Trimble Funeral Home, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Rev. Duane Lahti officiating. Visitation is one hour before the services. Cremation will take place and burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or Clarissa Cook Hospice House.
The former Sheila Rae Behm was born April 2, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa. Her parents were Everett Henry and Marian (Francis) Behm. She graduated from Davenport High School and attended Black Hawk College. She married Raymond Edward Nelson on August 24, 1957, in Davenport. He died May 1, 2021. She was a secretary for Moline Public Schools for 13 years, retiring in 1991. She previously worked for Rock Island Public Schools and Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline; Moline Library Book Club; and the Mall Walkers. She enjoyed being with good friends, reading, walking, and visiting coffee shops. She volunteered with LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone) where she met interesting people from all over the world, and River Action; loved her dog, Lucy: and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school functions and sporting events.
Sheila is survived by her loving daughters, Marcia (Craig) Johnson of Bettendorf, and Lori Willhite (Jim Franks) of East Moline; her grandchildren, Kirsten Johnson (Emanuel Moura Mendes), Bryce Johnson, Alex Willhite, Erin (Ethan) Lafary, and Austen Willhite; three great-grandchildren, Henry, Luka, and Margaret; and her sister, Phyllis (Gary) Ammeter of Blue Grass, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Michael D. Behm; and infant daughter, Amy Rae Nelson.
