Sharon Saunders

Sharon F. Saunders, 80, formerly of Moline, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Lighthouse of Silvis. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or the Alzheimer's Association.

The former Sharon Faye Sammon was born October 9, 1933, in East Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Orville and Lucille (Peterson) Sammon. She graduated from United Township High School and attended the former Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Throughout her life, she treasured the many friendships she made during these years. Sharon married Hugh E. Saunders on December 26, 1952, in Nashua, Iowa. Together they had two children, Susan and Steven. Hugh passed away in May 2005.

Sharon was a gifted pianist who generously shared her talent and love of music with others. For many years she taught piano lessons, and accompanied numerous vocalists and musicians. Sharon was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, for over 50 years. She loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed playing cards with friends, dancing and golfing. During the past several years, Sharon especially enjoyed the time she shared with her loving and devoted partner, Arnold Bauer.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brian Cunningham of Moline, a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cindy Saunders of Harlingen, Texas; grandchildren, Chris and Kellie Cunningham of Chicago, Illinois, Justin Saunders of Pekin, Illinois, Katie and Mark Pisel of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Jessica and Andy Bohannon of Edwardsville, Illinois; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Albrecht of Rock Island, Illinois, and her partner, Arnold Bauer of Silvis. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
