Sarah S. Smet

Sarah S. Smet, 83, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, Illinois.

A memorial service is scheduled on April 2nd at 11 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities, 3707 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10 AM. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service at the church. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Unitarian Church, Music Guild, St Jude's Childrens Hospital or a charity of your choice.

The former Sarah Margaret Stupfell was born February 2, 1933, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Dudley and Isabelle (Brenneman) Stupfell. She married John Stemple on July 31, 1954, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and they were later divorced. She married William Smet on November 26, 1988, in Davenport, Iowa. Sarah was a kindergarten teacher at Wells and Hoffman Schools in East Moline, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Unitarian Church and Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and enjoyed spending time with family, making cards for people's birthdays and bird watching.

Sarah is survived by her husband, William; four children and their spouses, Wendy and Bill Johnson of Darien, Georgia, Timothy Stemple and Monica Wen of Taipei, Taiwan, Marisa and David Beard of Abilene, Texas, and Kayla and Joe Nagle of Moline; four step-children and their spouses, Anne and Will Miller of Springfield, Illinois, Kate Cruz of Moline, Art Smet and Deb Duffy-Smet of Rochester, Minnesota, and Bob Smet of Springfield; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren with another eagerly anticipated. She was preceded in death by her elder sister, Dorothy Olsen.
