Sara A. Hankins

Sara A. Hankins, 36, of Milan, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, surrounded by her family at home, after a courageous battle with ALS.

An open house to celebrate Sara's life will start at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at her mother's home, 734 Hillcrest Road, Milan. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Sara Hankins Memorial Fund.

Sara was born September 19, 1980, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Tol "Ray" and Vikki (Kruse) Hankins. She graduated from Moline High School in 1998 and went on to cosmetology school. She enjoyed being a cosmetologist and sharing stories while making people beautiful.

She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. She loved cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Above all else, being a mother was the most important thing to Sara.

Survivors include her mother, Vikki Hankins of Milan; her four children, Alexis and Cayden Henry, and Micah and Amara Austin, who were her "everything"; siblings and their spouses, Katy (Brad) Bolender of Iowa City, Iowa, Travis (Jess) Hankins of Coal Valley, Molly (John) Osborn of Moline, and Erika (Nate) George of Moline; grandparents, Dale and Betty Kruse of Moline; seven nieces and nephews; and countless friends including her best friend, Melissa Armstrong of Moline. She was preceded in death by her father.

The family would like to give special thanks to her "care team" of Hospice Compassus, Cassie Johnson, and Rev. Joye Perry.
