Sandra L. Stearns-King, 82, of Orion, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Celebration of life will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Private burial is in Edgington Cemetery, Edgington, Illinois.
Sandra Lee Finch was born November 12, 1942, in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Ola (Bigham) Finch. She married Richard Stearns on February 12, 1961 and the couple went on to have four children. She later married David King on June 21, 2009, at Orion United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member.
Sandy loved working in the public and met a lot of people throughout her career. She worked in the lunchroom at Rockridge High School for many years. She also opened up a craft/nick-knack business in Edgington called “Memories of Days Gone By”. She worked in the deli department of Hy-Vee for over 25 years and most recently worked at Casey’s in Orion until retiring in 2020.
She enjoyed riding the Harley, races at Road America, and going to hear live music. She loved building things which she was taught how to do by her father. The best thing you could give her was a gift card to Lowe’s or Menards. She also loved sewing, crafting, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of her favorite phrases to say back to her loved ones was “I love you more.” She was also an avid dog lover.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of nearly 16 years, Dave; four children, Julie Stearns of Davenport, Iowa, Brenda (Stearns)Atnip of Illinois City, Elizabeth “Becky” (Stearns) McManus (Danny Niner) of Dunnellon, Florida, and Richard “Rick” Stearns of Illinois City; grandchildren, Angela Stearns (Rocky), Carly Rhoads, Tara (Ryan) Schmidt, Tim Atnip, Josh (Nicole) Atnip, Shana (McManus) (Nick) Schueller, Dallas Furnish, Shawn (Lisa) Niner, and Jacob Stearns; great-grandchildren, Aria, Nathien, Serenity, Alaia, Ondrae (Angela), Brody, Bronson and Makenna (Carly), Payton and Rylee (Tara), Savannah, Ava, Ashton, Emma and Sophia (Shana), Benjamin, Isabelle, Julie Anne and James (Dallas), and Lily, Shawn Jr., Scarlett, Daniel and Eliza (Shawn); two nieces, Lynn Finch and Laurie (Mike) Wood; a nephew, Scott (Mindy) Finch; her best friend, Bev Wright; and in-laws, John King and Carol Gilliam. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard Stearns; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Judy Finch; and a son-in-law, Tom Atnip.
