Sandra L. McGaughy, 71, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa.

Services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Moline, followed by a reception at the church. Prior to services, cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the Hunger Task Force.

The former Sandra Esp was born November 12, 1944, in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Bernice (Stegall) Esp. She married Michael L. McGaughy on December 24, 1978, in Viola, Illinois.

Sandy was the head teacher for the special education department in the Moline Public School District. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Moline. Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society of key women educators, was a very important part in her life. She served as the president of Mu Chapter, editor of the Lambda State Newsletter, and was a past Illinois State President.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Mike, of Moline; a son, Eric McGaughy of West Allis, Wisconsin; siblings, Linda and George Etheridge of Viola, Ronald and Missy Esp of New Boston, Michael and Sally Esp of Aledo, and Kathleen and Dean Hall of Moline; and several nieces and nephews.
