Samuel ?Uncle Bill? Booker, 90, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, in Fort Armstrong Assisted Living, Rock Island.
Graveside Services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Island National Cemetery, with The Reverend Ron Carlson of St. John?s United Methodist Church, Davenport, officiating. The Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is Noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Those wishing to go to the cemetery are to be at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.
Samuel was born October 11, 1922, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the son of Albert and Pleasant (Liddel) Booker. He married Rosie L. McMiller in September of 1943, in Friars Point, Mississippi. She died October 11, 2002. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Samuel worked as a pipe fitter for Adna Pipe, Inc. in Chicago for over 35 years.
He was a member of Carey Tercentenary AME in Chicago. He liked playing cards, and loved to eat, especially home cooked meals. He had a great sense of humor and truly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Uncle Bill is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much, including a nephew, Louis Clark, Jr., and a niece, Linda Clark, both of Davenport, a Godson, Mario Clark, Sr., of Davenport, and a Goddaughter, Concita ?Connie? Thomas of Irving, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, sisters, Viola Clark, Iona Lewis, Letha Neely, and Katie Williams, and brothers, Fred and Ed Booker.
