Ruth Smock

Ruth Smock, 94, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away January 5, 2024, at her residence surrounded by family.

Per her request there will be no services. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Interment will be at the Coal Valley Cemetery, Coal Valley, Illinois. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity or church of choice.

Ruth was born July 21, 1929, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Roy and Lulu (Rhea) Groseclose. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Milan, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ruth especially loved to spend time with her friends from church and the school district, but most importantly her grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her children, Michael Smock and Nancy Dorland; grandchildren, Shana (Michael) Danese, Nicole (Michael) Ortiz, Damian (Kathy) Dorland, Royanne (Thomas) Overfield, Jordan (James) Ellyson, Jennifer (Shunte) Foster, Tobey (DJ) Rhodes; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lou Stealy and Vondean Erickson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Calvin; sister, Ellen; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Smock; and son-in-law, David Dorland.
