Ruth E. Barber, 94, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.

A gathering to celebrate Ruth’s life is 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday March 29, at Community of Christ Church, 1525 48th Street Place, Moline, Illinois. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the church.

The former Ruth Eileen Dexter was born February 8, 1931, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Sr. and Vera (Lehman) Dexter. She married George E. Barber on June 3, 1950, in Rock Island. He died January 10, 1995.

She worked in the payroll and financial aid office at Augustana for over 16 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and bingo. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Ruth and she especially looked forward to game nights with them and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by five children, George (Diane) Barber of Cascade, Iowa, Michael (Bonnie) Barber of Arlington, Virginia, Judith (Kent) LeVan of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Curtis (Kim) Barber of Moline, and Mary (Dennis) Hougard of Rock Island, 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brother, Frank Dexter, Jr.; and sister, Katherine LeRoy.
