Rufus J. Rogers, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Joye Perry officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 4p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Rufus Junior Rogers was born May 16, 1928, in Grafton, West Virginia, to Rufus and Lena (Ludwick) Rogers. He married Dortha Rosalee Ketterman on July 3, 1948, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He served two tours of duty in the U. S. Army, in both WW II and the Korean War. He was a supervisor at Alcoa, Bettendorf, retiring in 1985. Rufus attended Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. He was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers, and enjoyed blue grass music, especially Bill Monroe, and reading history.
Rufus is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosalee; four children and their spouses, Lana and John Nolan and Arthur and Valerie Rogers, all of Bettendorf, Frank and Susan Rogers of Moline, and Nancy and Mike Kerr of East Moline; seven grandchildren, Jamie and Danny Rogers, Paul Frutiger, Michael Kerr and his wife Lyndsie, Brian Kerr, and Christopher and Kelly Rogers; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Scott Frutiger and Steven Rogers, and four sisters.
