Charles Roy ?Charlie? Cassatt, Jr., 54, of East Moline, Illinois, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family for the Charles Cassatt, Jr., Memorial Fund.
Charlie was born April 26, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Charles R. Cassatt Sr. and Gail Hansen Cassatt. He attended Pleasant Valley High School, graduating in 1973. He married Dora Alaniz Johnston, the love of his life, on September 15, 2001, in Moline.
Charlie retired from Alcoa after 32 years and began a new career driving a bus for Metrolink in 2005. He was a long standing member of Local Union 105, serving as steward and two terms as recording secretary. He was also a member of Local 313. He loved football, playing all four years in high school, and greatly enjoyed watching football with his brothers-in-law. He was a well-loved person who will be missed by all who knew him.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Dora, to whom he was devoted; children, Angela Cassatt of Moline, Nicholas Cassatt of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Stephanie Johnston and Kayla Johnston, both of East Moline. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Diamond Taylor, Kayleigh Cassatt, Kyle Johnson, and Reina Teague. He is also survived by his father, of East Moline; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene and Denny Stanford of Bloomington, Illinois, Diana and Mike Hayes of Loyal, Wisconsin, LuAnn and Jim Mumey of Bettendorf, and Rhonda Rylant of East Moline. He will be missed by his brothers-in-law and their wives, Manuel and Pam Alaniz of Silvis, and Bob and Sue Alaniz of Davenport, and his many nieces and nephews, John and Shyla Stanford, Jason Stanford, Sam and Jackie Hayes, Stewart Hayes, Scott and Dawn Mumey, Jennifer Hayes, Julie and Jim Buechel, James Stanford, Amber, Anita, Amanda, Devon, and Elena Alaniz, Marlene and Leroy Arriaga, and Kathy and Kayla Maghee; and dear friends and neighbors, Bud and Katrina Sersig of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his mother, maternal grandparents, Clarence and Edith Allen Hansen, and paternal grandparents, Harold and Cloe Carruthers Cassatt.
