Rock Island, Illinois Services for Roy C. Roba, 85, Friendship Manor, Rock Island, are 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. The Reverend Gary LaCroix will officiate. Private burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Christian Friendliness. Mr. Roba died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. He was born July 6, 1916, in Burt, Iowa, the son of Harold and Agnes (Soderberg) Roba. He married Elsie Knaack on August 26, 1939, in Moline. She died August 18, 1988. He married Bertha Running Bjerkan on March 12, 1988 in Dubuque, Iowa. She died August 1, 2000. He was a supervisor at John Deere Industrial Equipment, Moline, and John Deere Dubuque Works for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, John Deere Retirees, Moline Lodge #1014, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline, Golden "K" Kiwanis Club, Friends of Davenport Public Library, Friendship Manor Resident Council which he served as president, Trinity Seniors and Up ‘N Adam, Eve of the Church. He was a member of several genealogical societies and was co-founder of the Dubuque Genealogical Society and a past president of the Iowa Genealogical Society. He had formerly been active in Boys Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award. He loved his computer and formed a computer club at Friendship Manor. He also enjoyed creating wood sculptures and handwriting analysis. Roy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Sylvia Roba of Davenport; two granddaughters, Jennifer Roba of St. Paul, Minnesota and Allison Roba of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Andy Anderson of Mankato, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Erma Roba of North Mankato, Minnesota; and special friends, Peg Etzel of Moline and Doris Lee of East Moline.
