Ronald J. “Ron” Ekin, 79, of Moline, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be Friday, September 25, 2020 from 10 to 11 AM at the Trimble Funeral Home at 701 12th Street, Moline. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home with Loran Skaw and Dean Dykstra officiating. Masks and social distancing are required, and guests will be limited to fifty. Cremation will take place prior to services at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.
Ron was born on November 24, 1940 to Floy and Imo (Bayless) Ekin. Ron worked for thirty-three years at John Deere and retired in 1997. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing, being near the water and watching sunsets. He had an appreciation for cars and enjoyed roller skating and playing games. He has been a steady influence to both his natural and spiritual families. He was kind and loved to see the good in others. He cherished his family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Erma; six children, Annette (Steve) Towery, John (Chris) Ekin, Jim (Marci) Sweat, Daria (Donnie) Roberts, Darryl (Kim) Sweat, David (Amanda) Sweat; sister, Helen Hensley; twenty-three grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Floy Ekin, Imo (Ekin) Cooper and Cecil Cooper; his siblings, Floy Ekin, Jr., Donald Ekin, Bob Ekin, Raymond Ekin, Katherine Turnbull, Millard Ekin and John Ekin.
