Ronald A. Markin, age 72 of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at home with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 9, 2003 at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 569/200/VFW Post 1303. Memorials may be donated to either Pathway Hospice VNHA, Rock Island or to the American Cancer Society. Ronald Amil Markin was born May 16, 1931 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Amil and Gladys (Sturgeon) Markin. He married the former Dixie Eckles on July 13, 1956 in Bettendorf, Iowa. Mr. Markin served in the United States Army. Ronald was employed as a press operator for McMillan & Boedell for 40 years, retiring in 1990 where and was a Past President of the United Paper Workers Union. Among his hobbies, he was an avid Euchre player. Mr. Markin's family includes, his wife Dixie of Coal Valley; two sons, Larry Markin of Coal Valley, and Randy Markin of Glenville, Georgia; four daughters, Rhonda and Joe Blevins of Ocala, Florida, Pamela Wales of Coal Valley, Brenda and Chris Hansen of Milan, Illinois, and Sherri and Steve Wosoba of Grand Rapids, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard and June Markin of Palm Springs, California, Larry and Marsha Markin of Moline, Illinois, and Mike Markin of Wildwood, Florida; a sister, Patricia and Jimmy Marine of Lancaster, California. Ron was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerri and a sister, Lorena Hayden.
