Rodney E. Bruner, 82, of East Moline, Illinois, died Friday, January 15, 2016, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Joye Perry officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Rodney was born December 29, 1933, in Moline, the son of Richard and Lucille (Strother) Bruner. He graduated from Moline High School, where he played three sports, including quarterback for the football team, and was the class president. He served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Orléans, France. He married Barbara Jean Lutz on January 24, 1959, in Rock Island.
He worked in the Personnel Department at John Deere, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, an advisor for Junior Achievement, served as Membership Chairman for the Willow Springs Swim Club, coached little league baseball for the Babe Ruth League and the East Moline American Legion, and served on the board of directors for the East Moline Visiting Nurses.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, William and Roberta Bruner of Cordova, Illinois, Suzanne and Clifford Carlson of Rochester, Minnesota, Scott and Jackie Bruner of Issaquah, Washington, and Jeffrey Bruner of Davenport, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
